United
Republic of Texas
Here at http://texas.freecountries.org we describe the New Republic of Texas and the Historical Republic of Texas, which have jointly formed the United Republic of Texas (which names we hereby copyright under common law). These are peaceful and legal attempts to rediscover, reclaim, and restore the free country which Texas was before several events occurred which were illegal or otherwise invalid (such as the 1845 annexation and the 1865 conquest and occupation) and caused the Republic of Texas to be "covered up" by the governments which call themselves the STATE OF TEXAS and the UNITED STATES and which pretend to be Texas and America while they have abandoned not only Texas's and America's principles but also their Constitutions and laws and have illegally taken over the country.
Note that, unlike the various militant RT factions, we are not trying to "take over" Texas, as we realize that most people are unaware of our true history and either support the statist quo or just don't care. So we're willing to share jurisdiction - let each Texan have the choice to decide individually whether to get their government services from the USA, or the CRA, or the URT, or the Common Law Institute, or their own tribe if applicable, or whatever combination they prefer. Our desire for peaceful coexistence is symbolized by our flag above, which subtly combines the Lone Star flag with the Bonnie Blue (Burnett) flag.
Here is the Resolution which created the URT on 9/2/2005. The URT is the founding member nation of, and its Constitution when finished will comply with the requirements of, the Association of Free Countries. See our Press Release, we have completed our merger!
For more information about the URT, or to join us, see our Yahoo Group and subscribe there. Please take the World's Smallest Political Quiz and this other quiz and email your scores. Also please download and print this thought-provoking 1 page survey and check the boxes you agree with. If you have checked at least 1 box under each question, you may wish to fill out the rest of the form, sign it, and fax it to a number which will be given in response to your email message. This does not make you a citizen of the URT but does make you eligible to apply for any of several official documents to be developed in the near future, including a marriage certificate, some of which we have issued already.
If you scored high on the quizzes above, and checked lots of boxes on the survey above and filled out its form, and joined our Yahoo Group mentioned above and met its requirements, we will probably invite you to become a resident and then a citizen of the URT. Here's our Residence Form and Citizenship Form in case you're curious.
Here are several Word documents you can download.
We hope you find these interesting and useful. Note: some of these or other documents have a seal or earlier versions of the flag and map than the ones shown at the top of this web page. The earlier versions were replaced partly because we like the newer ones better, and partly at the request of an individual concerned about possible copyright or trademark infringement (which we have not verified). Any occurrences of the seal or earlier flag and map which may remain in any of our documents are not intended as copyright or trademark infringement and should be ignored, even though they have not yet been removed by our busy and unpaid volunteers.
On November 4, 2006, the URT officially announced its existence and its revival of the RT at the first annual meeting of a particular convention known to our citizens. It was attended by representatives of several countries. One participant was particularly impressed by the meticulous, careful work we put into researching the issues and properly organizing the HRT revival in compliance with its 1836 Constitution, amending its Constitution, creating the NRT in compliance with the current de facto US and State of Texas Constitutions, and merging the NRT and HRT to form the URT. Apparently our dedication to observing all applicable legal requirements succeeded in preserving our level of legitimacy which no previous RT effort has ever achieved, as the convention effectively recognized us as the RT and no one expressed any doubts. We also attended their second annual convention in October, 2007.
After the merger, we elected more offices and developed and ratified more Constitutional Amendments. While needed work on our Constitution continues, the current version is at the indicated link below. Among the more interesting amendments, we added a Protector to help make sure that our government never violates the rights of the people, regardless of whether our Constitution otherwise has enough safeguards in it. We need more libertarian/ancap/Objectivist//NAP-oriented responsible people to join us and help us develop our marketing strategy. Religious and other minorities are especially welcome, but no socialists, communists, nazis, fascists, criminals, or terrorists, please. They already have most of the rest of the world, so they don't need us anyway.
The Lakota Sioux nation has apparently gotten tired of the US violating its treaties for many decades and has therefore exercised the right that any contracting party generally has to revoke the contract when the other party has severely broken it. See the Republic of Lakotah web site for more information. We had offered to exchange Diplomatic Recognition with them and are awaiting a reply as to how they wish to proceed in this matter. We are also organizing the League of Occupied Nations which will offer membership to Lakota and other occupied nations, including those which do not qualify to join the Association of Free Countries.

It is interesting to note that the URT and Lakota are much closer neighbors than one might initially realize, considering that the SW tip of their territory is so close to the NW tip of ours (see the maps above, I hope they don't mind our having copied theirs to show here). Of course, even if there were some overlap, this would not be a problem, as we're happy to share territory and jurisdiction. After all, each person's affiliations and allegiance are really matters to be chosen by that individual, not imposed by a government or other organization. Update: Apparently there is a dispute about which body represents the legitimate government of the people of Lakota. Until this is settled, we don't endorse any particular group. We do, however, applaud the spirit of independence and courage of the Lakota people.
