The US and state governments claim that the US legally annexed the Republic of Texas in 1845 and that Texas agreed. Since history is written by the conquerors, rather than by the victims, and most people learn all about government in schools owned and operated by the government, most people have been brainwashed with this lie. There are several refutations to this, but for now, here's just one - based on a web site supporting the lie, yet its own words disprove it (the RT group(s) referred to by the web page cited below are other factions not associated with us).
At http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/editorial/97/05/01/brock.0-1.html there are arguments that the annexation was legal. But some of the arguments themselves actually argue against that:
"The group's claim that the joint resolution was unconstitutional is not original. It was raised in both houses of Congress during the debates, and a majority of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations reported against the resolution on that ground.
Nevertheless, Congress passed the joint resolution consenting to Texas' annexation, and President John Tyler signed it on March 1, 1845."
There in black and white you see yet another example of the US government deliberately and knowingly acting in violation of its own Constitution. The US government has been operating illegally for over 150 years, and probably longer (this would make interesting research if someone had adequate time and resources).
